Study Tours

Sion students also have the opportunity to study abroad in Sion-organized international study tours. Unlike the exchange programs, there is no homestay experience involved, and the focus of these trips is to further explore some of the fascinating concepts presented in Sion classrooms. Some examples of recent study tours:

Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands

This trip is run jointly by our Spanish and Science faculty. Though open to students of languages other than Spanish as well, opportunities abound for Spanish students to practice speaking the language. The Galapagos portion of the trip affords Sion students the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Darwin, exploring one of the most biodiverse places in the world and observing species that have developed in isolation from the rest of the world.

Marseille, France

Led by the French faculty, this program involves exploration of one of the largest cities in southern France. Students have the opportunity to explore Provence and the French Riviera, all while practicing their spoken French. Highlights include sampling French cuisine, taking in the landscapes that made the paintings of Monet, Cezanne, and Matisse famous, and horseback riding in the Camargue.

Rome, Italy

Trips to Rome have taken place in conjunction with study tours of France, and starting in the summer of 2014, the Latin faculty will lead trips to the Eternal City as well. Students spend their days examining the rich history of a city that once controlled the majority of Western Europe. Visits to archaeological sites allow students the opportunity to get a glimpse of life in the ancient world, and the rich Catholic history of Rome is a great complement to the Theology curriculum at Sion.

Service Trips

Every year Sion has students who choose to spend their spring break serving those who are less fortunate. In 2014, students were a part of spring break service trips to Guatemala, Chicago and Canada.
